  • Contemplative Photography in the Dharma Art Tradition

Miksang is a contemplative photographic tradition that originated from the teachings of the Shambhala community of Tibetan Buddhism. The word Miksang is Tibetan for "good eye" or "purified eye". The tradition aims to see things as they are, and to be aware of how our perception of things affects our minds. Miksang photography involves synchronizing the eye with the mind, and capturing everyday reality in the proper state of mind. The goal is to find joy and awareness by paying attention to small details, such as colors, patterns, and textures.

What’s Restorative Embodiment?

Restorative Embodiment is a term coined by Dr. Alan Fogel that is defined as working with the mind, body and sensory system in ways that help create regulation, feelsing of rest and “restore” and assist in developing resiliency (the ability to bounce back in stressful or traumatic situations).

I am a certified Restorative Embodiment and Expressive Arts Practitioner credentialed from Dr. Cathy Malchiodi, Dr. Emily Watson and Dr. Elizabeth Wharson’s Trauma Informed Expressive Arts Therapy Institute. Examples of things we do to work with the body bilateral stimulation, working with clay, paper and pen, paint, sensory tools, toys and boxes (yes for adults too) and moving the body. Music is a big part of this too.

KIDS Art Hour

I offer a Kids Art Hour to groups both online and in person that are kid friendly art activities that incorporate restorative embodiment principles. We work with movement, fun, kid friendly breathing methods, art materials, music and writing.
